Surgical mammology

The mammologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of breast diseases, the spectrum of which includes inflammatory pathologies, neoplasms and trauma. The doctor directs for an in-depth examination and hospitalization when required.

The K+31 clinic has a mammological center, which provides prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all pathologies of this profile.

Patient examination is carried out using modern equipment, which allows the procedure to be carried out with the comfort of the patient and to identify problems at an early stage. If necessary, postoperative rehabilitation and aesthetic correction are carried out. In addition to operations for therapeutic purposes, in our center you can change the shape and size of the breast for personal aesthetic reasons.

An early visit to a mammologist surgeon in most cases helps to get by with an organ-preserving operation. Timely diagnosis of cancer at an early stage allows you to remove part of the breast, and not the entire organ.

Help is provided to adult patients regardless of gender, age and other characteristics.

Biopsy in surgical mammology

In order to diagnose diseases, a biopsy is prescribed - taking the smallest pieces of tissue in order to determine the cellular composition. In our clinic, the manipulation is carried out quickly, using a special thin needle, which helps to perform the procedure with minimal discomfort.

Vacuum aspiration biopsy allows for operations to remove neoplasms up to 3 cm in diameter without incisions or scars. A needle is inserted into the mammary gland, destroying the tumor, then the mass is removed using a vacuum. The manipulation is performed under local anesthesia, which is especially important for persons who have contraindications to general anesthesia.

At the K+31 Breast Center, biopsy is possible under the control of ultrasound, mammography, CT and MRI.

What is treated in the Department of Surgical Mammology

Diseases of the breast that are treated surgically:

  • Benign neoplasms - fibroadenoma, cyst, lipoma, adenoma - in case of their rapid growth or large size.
  • Intraductal papilloma is removed in any case, regardless of size, since it tends to degenerate into cancer.
  • Malignant neoplasms - infiltrative, armored, inflammatory, papillary, medullary cancer, carcinoma, angiosarcoma, Paget's disease.
  • Mastitis.

In some cases, fibromas and lipomas can be removed in a gentle way - by enucleation or exfoliation, that is, through a small incision while preserving the surrounding tissues. This helps to preserve the organ as much as possible, practically without changing its appearance.

If necessary, part of the breast can be removed (this is called resection) or the entire breast (mastectomy). The volume of intervention is determined by the area of the lesion, the size of the neoplasm.

Doctors try to preserve the breast as much as the situation allows, much depends on the stage of the process and the timing of the treatment. The main indications for surgical treatment:

  • Cancer relapse after previous treatment.
  • Newly diagnosed malignant neoplasm.
  • Cancer at the earliest stage - in situ or determined at the cellular level.

Another type of rare manipulation is collateral (or prophylactic) mastectomy. In this case, a healthy organ is also removed, but against the background of an already existing cancer that has affected the other breast.

Together with the breast, the surgeon, depending on certain factors, may decide to remove nearby muscles and lymph nodes. This is necessary to remove all cancerous cells and prevent recurrence.

Plastic Surgical Mammology

After some treatments, changes in the breast area may cause aesthetic discomfort. To solve this problem, reconstructive plastic surgery is available at K+31, hiding the defect with the help of breast implants, skin grafts and special tattooing.
