Methods of fixing external braces
Direct method of installing braces
With this method, the doctor fixes the brackets directly on each tooth, regardless of the type of bracket device chosen. To ensure high accuracy, a panoramic X-ray image is used. Direct installation requires high precision and skill from the orthodontist.
The bracket is placed on the tooth using special tweezers on a previously applied adhesive compound. Fixing the bracket requires complete patient immobility. Usually an hour after installation, the metal arch is fixed, although sometimes this stage is postponed to the next visit
Indirect installation method
With the indirect method, the bite correctors are first attached to a plaster model of the dentition, formed in advance. After that, metal braces are glued to the teeth. This approach ensures greater precision and accuracy of work, making the process more comfortable for the patient.
The indirect method requires additional equipment to perform the following tasks:
- Taking impressions of the dentition
- Making a plaster model
- Direct installation of the orthodontic device
The structure is fixed using photopolymer glue, which allows the procedure to be carried out quickly and efficiently.
Types of materials for the manufacture of vestibular systems
Various materials are used in the manufacture of vestibular orthodontic appliances:

Metal - stainless steel or alloys containing nickel are used

Ceramics - the color is matched to the shade of the tooth enamel, which makes the bite correctors practically invisible

Sapphire - artificially grown synthetic sapphire crystals are completely transparent and outwardly indistinguishable from tooth enamel

Combined materials are also used to achieve optimal properties and aesthetics
- Abduction of the lower jaw at the moment of opening the mouth
- TMJ dysfunction (in particular, arthritis)
- Improper anatomical position (crowding) of teeth
- Class III malocclusion (anterial displacement of the 1st lower molar)
- Pathological bite (open or deep)
Important: malocclusion with posterior displacement of the lower jaw can cause a narrowing of the airway, and a chronic lack of oxygen leads to the development of pathologies of the cardiovascular system.
IVD is not used in orthodontics if the patient is missing more than half of his teeth. When identifying carious lesions of hard dental tissues, preliminary sanitation is required.
Other contraindications include:
- Chronic somatic diseases in the acute stage
- Acute infectious process (including influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections)
- Periodontitis and periodontal disease
- Gingivitis and gingivostomatitis (including in remission)
- Benign neoplasms (cysts)
- Malignant tumors of the oral cavity
- Low level of hygiene
- Pregnancy (regardless of gestational age)
- Lactation period (breastfeeding)
The technique is suitable for treating patients aged 16 years and older, i.e. with a mature permanent dentition.

Advantages of multi-loop technique in orthodontics
During the installation of the MEAW system, plates are fixed on the front surface of the teeth. The arch is attached to the grooves of the vestibular braces, and additional traction is provided by elastic ligatures (rubber rings).
