Procedure

This eyelid surgery involves redistributing and removing excess periorbital fat, strengthening the orbicularis oculi muscle and septum, and eliminating sagging skin in the periorbital area.

Before the intervention begins, the surgical area is carefully marked. This provides the surgeon with clear guidelines and helps achieve optimal results. The procedure is performed both under local anesthesia with sedation and under general anesthesia.

During the operation, external incisions are often used: along the crease of the upper eyelid and just below the eyelash line on the lower eyelid.

A fusiform flap of skin is removed from the upper eyelid, forming a fold when the eye opens. In the lower eyelid area, fatty tissue is redistributed and fatty hernias are removed.

If necessary, excess skin is excised, and additional plastic surgery of the periorbital muscle is performed. The operation is completed by applying cosmetic stitches and an aseptic bandage on the eyes.

In cases where there is no sagging skin in the lower eyelid area, manipulations are performed through an incision on the conjunctiva from the inside. This approach avoids visible traces of the operation.

Postoperative period

Sutures after upper blepharoplasty are usually located in the natural crease of the eyelid or slightly below the eyelash line. In most cases, patients do not need to treat them with ointments and other products.

In the first days after eyelid surgery, side effects are often observed: inflammation of the eyes, lacrimation, temporary double vision (diplopia), swelling of the tissues around the organs of vision, hematomas and a feeling of heaviness in the eyelids. These symptoms are temporary. As a rule, they completely disappear at the end of the rehabilitation period.

There are signs that you should immediately seek medical help if they appear:

• Cutting pain in the eye area
• Conjunctival hyperemia (redness of the eyes)
• Hemorrhages in the sclera of the eye
• Eversion
• Hyperreaction to light
• Profuse and prolonged lacrimation
• Suppuration of sutures
• Increased body temperature (hyperthermia)

To avoid this, it is important to strictly follow your doctor's instructions after an eyelid lift. In particular, it is necessary to avoid applying cosmetics to the stitches, limit physical activity and protect the eyes from bright light. You also need to keep the seams clean and dry.

In addition, in the first days after surgery, it is important to avoid any activities that may aggravate the swelling or cause tension in the eyelid area. Ice compresses or special cooling gels can help reduce swelling and speed up the healing process.
