Causes of the problem

Deformation of nails means their ingrowth, curvature, or thickening. To solve these issues, the latest technology is used - orthonyxia. This is a procedure in which special corrective systems are installed on the nail plate.

Nail problems arise due to improper care, wearing tight shoes and injuries. Internal factors also play a role - heredity, metabolic disorders and various diseases.

The most serious problem is ingrown toenails. Without timely and high-quality treatment, this condition can lead to serious complications, including sepsis and loss of a finger.

Podofix

Podofix is an innovative system for correcting nail deformities. This amazingly flexible and soft material allows specialists to accurately and painlessly adjust their shape, achieving excellent results even in the most difficult cases.

The Podofix plate may be useful in the following cases:

  • Ingrown or deformed nail.
  • Development of hypergranulation (represents excessive tissue formation during the healing process of wounds. Observed in the area of the nail fold).
  • The appearance of calluses in the area of the nail fold.

Before you begin the procedure for installing the plate on the nail, you need to perform a number of preparatory measures. During the day before the intervention, you should refrain from using any cosmetics on your feet, including nail polish and nail polish remover. Also avoid visiting a bathhouse, sauna or swimming pool - instead, give preference to a short shower lasting no more than 5-7 minutes.

The Podofix plate is attached to the nail with special glue. Using a metal wire, the degree of its impact on the area that needs adjustment is adjusted. After this, it is twisted until the desired tension is achieved.

The specialist removes excess wire after installation and, if necessary, applies a leveling gel. The Podofix plate is intended for single use. It should be replaced every 3-6 weeks.

The time required for correction with this remedy is usually about a year, but this period may vary depending on factors such as the rate of nail growth, the degree of its deformation and the patient’s compliance with the podiatrist’s recommendations. Specialists provide detailed instructions on how to prevent recurrence of the problem after completing the course of treatment.

Tamponade

Tamponade of an ingrown nail involves the use of special material. The created tampon is placed between the lateral periungual fold and the affected element itself.

It is characterized by its resistance to pressure and has anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent infection in the area of damaged tissue. The contact between the nail and the soft tissues is blocked by the tampon, which reduces the risk of ingrowth, reduces pressure on the roller and protects the nail edge from separation and re-fracture.

This correction method is an extremely important step in the process of partial removal of the nail plate. Its absence significantly increases the chances of the side of the nail growing into the skin, which can provoke infection, inflammation and associated pathological conditions.

Standard materials for decorative manicure, such as gel, are not suitable for creating a tampon. Instead, you can use specialized hypoallergenic materials (capolin or ligazan). They provide air permeability and prevent the development of inflammation. Moreover, they help reduce the pressure of the nail plate on irritated areas of the skin.

The tamponing procedure takes only a few minutes. After treating and trimming the ingrown nail, this area is re-disinfected, and then separated from the periungual fold using a swab.

Friser bracket

The Fraser bracket consists of medical stainless steel containing nickel and chromium. Its diameter, varying from 0.4 to 0.7 mm, is selected individually, based on the nature, thickness of the nail plate and the complexity of the problem.

Using wire cutters and forceps, the podiatrist creates two miniature hooks at the ends of the wire for attachment to the nail. They provide tension points. Regulation is carried out through a loop on the wire, which runs across the nail plate.

A nail staple helps:

  • Prevent ingrown nails.
  • Raise and align the corners of the nail plate.
  • Correct the shape of a distorted nail.
  • Reduce the pressure of the ingrown edge on soft tissue.

The Fraser brace is often used for ingrown (including repeated) or curled nails. It is also used for deformations or abnormal growth of the plate (this happens against the background of injuries and various diseases).

The installation of this correction system is carried out under conditions of complete asepsis. In general, the procedure is completely painless, although some patients may experience minor discomfort. On average, installation takes from 15 to 30 minutes.

Pain caused by ingrown toenails usually goes away immediately after the brace is installed. In the first 24 hours after the procedure, the patient may feel slight tension.

No special care required. Thanks to the secure fixation of the brace, a person can continue his usual lifestyle, wear regular shoes and not experience discomfort. This treatment method is relevant at any time of the year.

The period of wearing the Fraser brace depends on the growth rate of the nail plate, the complexity of the case and the presence of other problems. On average, correction takes from 2 to 6 months. In some cases, the time increases to 1 year.

Adjustments are required every 4-8 weeks while wearing the brace, otherwise the effectiveness of the treatment may deteriorate. During the process, the podologist removes the staple and treats the nail and periungual sinuses. If necessary, he adjusts the position and degree of tension of the system.

Alignment of the nail plate

Nail plate leveling is a procedure that allows you to restore its perfectly flat and smooth surface.

It is necessary both in cases of deformation and when it is necessary to restore the nail after an injury or fungal disease.

Installation of a correction system is not recommended in the followingслучаях:
  • Inflammation on the nail or in the area of the nail folds
  • Fungal infections
  • Purulent discharge
  • Psoriasis
  • Britability, brittleness, splitting or flaking of the nail
Titanium thread and its application

Titanium thread is highly durable and elastic. It is not subject to corrosion and does not cause allergic reactions. One of the unique features of this material is the ability to “remember” its original shape.

Once installed on the nail, the alloy tends to return to its previous state (taper), lifting and pulling the edges of the nail out of the skin. This helps reduce pain and inflammation. Over time, this procedure leads to the formation of a healthy element that is not prone to ingrowth.

Installing a titanium thread on a nail has no age restrictions and is relevant even for small elements.

The procedure itself takes approximately 1.5 hours. The stages of nail correction using titanium thread look like this:

1

Medical pedicure. Often clients have problems not only with ingrown toenails, so it is important to properly prepare the foot for the procedure. Medical pedicure allows you to treat your feet in detail, carefully file or trim your nails

2

Preparation of the nail plate. The element is fixed with a special glue. To enhance the reliability of fastening, the doctor degreases the nail and treats it with an emery file. Before installing the thread, the surface becomes slightly rough

3

A piece of thread. The cut thread is located in the center, parallel to the free edge of the nail. With subsequent corrections, its installation location shifts slightly towards the base.

4

Attaching the thread. A thin layer of adhesive is applied to the nail plate. Immediately after this, the wire is placed so that its ends can catch on the edges of the plate. Then the nail dries under a special lamp

5

Additional reinforcement. To strengthen the fastening, a little more gel is applied to each end of the thread, which is also dried under a lamp.

6

Final processing. The finger is additionally treated with propolis-based ointment. The appearance of the nail can be improved by applying varnish, which can also be used to disguise the wire

The thread must be replaced every month. Already after 30 days from the moment of installation, the nail plate becomes smoother.

There are no contraindications to direct correction of an ingrown toenail. However, if the nail is seriously affected by fungus, the procedure is not performed.
