Taping

Taping is a physiotherapy technique that involves sticking special elastic cotton tapes on the patient's body.

Tape is applied to damaged muscles and joints, creates a feeling of peace, pain relief. They are used for the prevention and treatment of sports and domestic injuries (bruises, sprains and torn ligaments), diseases of the spine and joints, pain syndromes of various etiologies, both alone and in combination with other methods of therapy. The therapeutic effect of taping is based on the creation of a physiologically advantageous position of the damaged area, due to its fixation and reduction of unwanted functional load.

Depending on the condition of the damaged area, the tape is applied in two ways:

  • The application of an unstretched tape, under which it is first necessary to stretch the skin and the damaged muscle underneath, so that the skin rises above the muscles and ligaments, which creates additional interstitial space and facilitates lymphatic drainage.
  • Application of a stretched tape in case the ligaments or muscles are injured and unable to stretch.

The elasticity of the tape creates additional pressure that stimulates nerve receptors, relieving pain.

The effectiveness of the procedure depends on the correct application of the tapes.
