Who are donated eggs for?
The use of donor eggs is used for the following indications:
- In the ovaries, their own eggs do not mature, even while taking medications
- With several IVF programs, it is not possible to obtain embryos that are promising for the onset of pregnancy
- A woman has gender-related genetic diseases
Who can be an egg donor?
All donors can be conditionally divided into two groups: anonymous (provided by the IVF clinic) and non-anonymous (relatives or acquaintances of patients). The requirements in both cases are the same: it must be a healthy woman not older than 35 years old, examined in accordance with the law and who has given her voluntary consent to participate in the IVF procedure as a donor. Obviously, the IVF clinic has more stringent requirements for the health of an anonymous donor. Thus, women with bad habits are not allowed to participate in donor programs. When working with a related donor, the doctors' approach is softer, the decision is made by the donor and the patients together.
What preparation is needed for the donor oocyte program?
If a non-anonymous oocyte donor participates in the program, then the program looks like this
First, they begin to stimulate the donor of oocytes, receive eggs, fertilize with the husband's sperm, cultivate the embryos and perform their cryopreservation. Next, the patient's menstrual cycle is waited for, the endometrium is prepared and the embryos are transferred into the uterine cavity.
An anonymous oocyte donor can be selected in the donor oocyte bank by blood group and some external data. At the same time, the cost of the program can be significantly lower, since the patient does not have additional costs for stimulating the ovaries and, in many cases, for drugs to prepare the endometrium. The date of thawing and fertilization of donor oocytes can be scheduled for the patient's menstrual cycle and the embryo can be transferred to the uterine cavity in the natural cycle.
