Assisted reproductive technologies enable many married couples to become parents. The final stage of in vitro fertilization is the transfer of embryos into the uterine cavity. It is possible to judge the success of IVF only two weeks after the procedure. But within a few days after embryo replanting, many women begin to listen to their feelings and discover some changes in the body.
Changes in the body after IVF
The final stage of IVF involves the transfer of embryos into the uterine cavity, which have been cultured in a nutrient medium for several days. Immediately after the procedure, a cascade of specific processes occurs in the female body:
- biochemical - activation of the biosynthesis of enzymes necessary for the cleavage of endometrial tissue during implantation of a blastocyst into the uterine lining;
- biophysical - the differentiation of embryonic cells and the formation of external and internal cell masses, as well as tissues of the placenta;
- trophic - nutrition of the embryo due to the destruction of endometrial cells, and subsequently - due to the formation of a single circulatory system with the maternal organism.
What happens 3 days after the embryo transfer ? It all depends on what kind of embryos were transferred into the uterine cavity. Five-day-old blastocysts are more mature, therefore they are implanted into the endometrium within 2 days after IVF. On the 3rd day after the transfer of 3 day old embryos, the hatching is only completed. The outer shell of the fetal eggs is opened, from which diploid cells emerge, ready for implantation into the uterine lining.
The process of blastocyst penetration into the endometrium takes on average 2 to 4 days. During this time, the first contact of the embryos with the surface of the uterus occurs. After that, they stick to the most favorable areas of the mucous membrane for penetration. The number of lysosomes in the blastocyst increases, due to which it begins to produce enough enzymes for uncoupling of endometrial cells and implantation.
Feelings 3 days after IVF
During the consultation, reproductive specialists warn patients that specific sensations on the 3rd day after embryo transfer are subjective signs of pregnancy. Many symptoms result from hormone maintenance therapy. Pregnancy can be diagnosed only on the basis of the results of laboratory tests, which are carried out 2 weeks after embryo replanting.
Often patients argue that on the 3rd day after the embryo transfer, the abdomen pulls , the volume of vaginal discharge increases, the head hurts, etc. These signs indicate the onset of pregnancy, but in the case of IVF, many women resort to self-hypnosis. Experts do not recommend relying on such sensations that arise after embryo replanting:
- weakness in the body;
- nausea;
- emotional lability;
- decreased appetite;
- dizziness;
- emotional lability, etc.
The listed symptoms cannot be called reliable and indicative of the onset of gestation. To make sure that the blastocyst is implanted into the uterus, you need to wait for the results of the hCG test.
Change in progesterone levels with IVF
Progesterone is an endogenous steroid hormone that affects the menstrual cycle, gestation and fetal development. The degree of readiness of the endometrium for the introduction of blastocysts depends on its content in the body. With a low concentration of the hormone, the likelihood of conception with IVF decreases.
If the body is unable to produce steroid hormones on its own, the patient is prescribed progesterone drugs. They have a pronounced stimulating effect on the endometrial tissue, due to which they loosen and increase in volume. Embryos are transplanted into the uterine cavity on the 3rd day after the start of hormonal therapy.
The concentration of the hormone in the blood after IVF is an important indicator of the success of the procedure and the general condition of the patient. The level of p rogesterone on day 3 after embryo transfer can fluctuate strongly towards a decrease. That is why supportive hormonal therapy is carried out up to the 26th day of the cycle.
With a high level of steroid hormones in the body, tangible changes can occur:
- bloating;
- a sharp change in mood;
- enlargement of the mammary glands;
- copious transparent discharge.
In order to identify the threat of miscarriage in time, reproductologists advise to be tested for progesterone 1 time in 2-3 days immediately after IVF. Before taking blood, patients should not eat for 8-9 hours. In this regard, it is recommended to take tests in the morning on an empty stomach. For a period of 1-2 weeks of gestation, the level of the hormone in the blood should be in the range of 38-58 nmol / l.
Temperature rise after IVF
A slight increase in temperature after IVF is a natural reaction of the female body to the penetration of foreign objects (embryos). Basal temperature often increases by 1-2 degrees on day 3 after embryo transfer. Changes in the body are associated with the production of progesterone, the side effect of which is hyperthermia.
Hyperthermia should not be confused with fever, which may be the first sign of acute respiratory infections. It is recommended to seek the help of a doctor if the fever is accompanied by symptoms such as:
- nasal congestion;
- rhinorrhea;
- chills;
- weakness in the body;
- discomfort in the throat;
- hoarseness of voice.
In this case, hyperthermia is a manifestation of an infectious disease, the development of which can cause interruption of gestation. To prevent complications, it is recommended to limit physical activity and contact with people around for two weeks after IVF. This will help reduce the risk of infection in the body and, as a result, spontaneous abortion.
